Here's a map UI experiment I'm playing around with, the spinning diamond acting as user's cursor/navigation marker. At the moment you can scoot around, collect stars, and kind-of interact with NPCs.

 

 

I'm playing around with different ideas, and one I think is working out pretty well is the per-poly terrain highlighting. I'm creating terrain tiles, baking AO into the texture, then breaking it up into indiviual triangles for use in game.
